WELCOME & OPEN PRAYER
[Host] Hey guys! Welcome to First Priority. We’re so glad you showed up. Today [Insert name] is going to share how we can make a difference at our school by sharing the Gospel. That might sound big, but it starts with simple conversations. Before we get started, let’s take a minute to pray and ask God to prepare our hearts. Let’s pray!
Sample prayer: God, thank You for bringing us here today. Help us to see how You can use us in our school to make a difference. Give us boldness and a heart for the people around us. Speak through [insert name] today and help us learn something new. In Jesus’ name, amen.
THE CONVERSATION
[Speaker] Last week we were challenged to share our Life/Death card with someone. Who did you share it with, and how did it go? (Take a moment to let a few people share and share your own response too.) Sometimes just one conversation can lead someone closer to Jesus and that’s what we’re all about. Today we are going to continue the conversation by looking at those that God has placed in our lives.
Let’s take a second and think about the people around us. Not just the people sitting here today, but the people in our math class, our lunch table, our sports team, or that group you see in the hallway every day.
Ask yourself this question: “God, who needs to know You here?”
Here’s a wild stat: about 90% of students at our school don’t have a relationship with Jesus. That means most of the people we pass in the halls or sit next to in class don’t know the hope, love, or forgiveness Jesus o!ers. That’s heavy but also powerful. This means God has placed us right where we are for a reason.
It’s not an accident. We’re not just here to go to school, pass classes, and move on. We’re here to reflect Jesus. To be the one who introduces someone to eternal life. Yes, us! And it happens when we have intentional conversations.
Let’s read what Paul wrote in Romans chapter 10 verses 14 and 15. “How then will they call on him in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in him of whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without someone preaching? And how are they to preach unless they are sent? As it is written, ’How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the good news!’” That verse tells us people won’t believe if they never hear, and they’ll never hear unless someone tells them. That “someone” is us.
We don’t need a stage or a microphone. We don’t even need perfect words. We just need a heart that says, “God, use me.” God can use our story, our courage, and our kindness to help someone else find Jesus. So, think of your circle. Your teammates, classmates, and even the people you don’t always talk to. What if you were the reason they met Jesus? What Can We Do? Let’s get specific. Who has God put in your life this year that you could talk to about Him?
(Hand out post-it notes to everyone.) Write down the first name of a couple of people at school who don’t know Jesus or who you know need encouragement. These are the people you’re committing to pray for and talk to over the next few weeks. After you write their names, stick the note somewhere you’ll see it daily — on your mirror, in your locker, or inside your notebook.
Let’s ask God to give us courage to start conversations. Remember we can use our Life/Death card to help start that conversa”on. Just like someone once told you about Jesus, now you get to be that person for someone else. I am excited to see how God is going to use us in the lives of the people we put on our list.
DISCUSSION TIME
[Speaker & Mentor] Let’s take a few minutes to talk about this together. (Give students a chance to share their thoughts on the questions below and be sure to join the conversation.)
- What keeps you from having Gospel conversations? (Examples: fear, not knowing what to say, feeling like you’re not a good example, etc.)
- When during the week do you have the chance to start a Gospel conversation? (Examples: at lunch, in class, on the bus, during practice, at work, etc.)
- Why do you think God wants to use students — people like us — to share the Gospel? (Follow up: How does that make you feel — scared, excited, unsure?)
- What’s one small step you could take this week to move a conversation toward Jesus (Examples: ask someone how you can pray for them, share your Life/Death card, invite them to First Priority or church.)
- What are some ways we can live differently that might point people to Jesus even before we say anything? (Examples: kindness, honesty, not gossiping, including others.)
Take a moment now and quietly pray for the names you wrote down. Ask God to help you love them, talk to them, and be a light in their life.
(Give students a moment to pray, then bring the student host back up to give the CHALLENGE and PRAY.)
CHALLENGE & PRAY
[Host] Our challenge this week is simple and bold: pray for the people on our list and start one conversation about Jesus with someone. You never know how a conversation can change someone’s eternity. How will they know unless someone tells them? Let’s pray.
Sample Prayer: God, thank You for putting us in our school on purpose. Open our eyes to see the people around us who need You. Give us courage to speak up and start a conversation. Use us to make a difference in the lives of the people we wrote down. In Jesus’ name, amen.
